Toni Camp
Hi, I’m Toni—an acrylic painter living and working along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. My work is rooted in lyrical abstraction, where each piece emerges through intuition rather than intention—guided by movement, memory, and a quiet attentiveness to what wants to surface.
I don’t paint to replicate what I see, but to respond to what I feel. My process is layered and responsive, often built over time—marks added, softened, obscured, and revealed again. There’s a balance I’m always chasing between restraint and freedom, softness and structure.
The coast influences my work deeply, though not in literal ways. It’s present in the atmosphere—the shifting light, the openness, the subtle tension between stillness and movement. My paintings are less about place and more about presence—spaces to pause, to notice, to feel something just beneath the surface.
For much of my life, creativity lived quietly in the background. Returning to painting felt less like starting over and more like remembering—coming back to something essential. What began as a personal reconnection has become a daily practice, and a way of moving through the world with greater honesty.
I’m drawn to work that holds both delicacy and strength—pieces that don’t demand attention, but reward it. My hope is that each painting offers a moment of quiet recognition, where the viewer can bring their own story into the experience.
I live in Ocean Springs, Mississippi with my husband, and we’re grateful to be part of a vibrant and growing arts community along the Gulf Coast. We also have a son, and it’s a joy to watch him coach high school football in this season of life.
I am currently a member of Gallery 782 in Biloxi, Mississippi, River Art Gallery in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and The Gulf Coast Gallery (thegulfcoastgallery.com).
